Dexamethasone powder (10 mg/0.5 oz. packet)

Dexamethasone is a moderately strong short acting corticosteroid antiinflammatory used for many conditions involving inflammation in horses. These conditions may be allergic manifestations or non-allergic inflammation involving various tissues in the body. Common dosage for a 1000 lb. horse for allergic symptoms (itching, hives) is one 10 mg. packet daily for 2 days followed by 2 days of 1/2 packet per day. There are several contraindications for using any corticosteroid medication, including dexamethasone, in horses, so be sure to consult Dr. Blue regarding your horses particular condition prior to using this medication.
